Chris Sligh Singer Wikipedia
Sligh auditioned in Birmingham, Alabama, singing Seal’s “Kiss from a Rose,” to which Paula Abdul responded with a standing ovation and the words, “I like you very much.” The judges of American Idol chuckled at his goal of “making David Hasselhoff weep,” a reference to Hasselhoff’s tears when Taylor Hicks won season 5.
Sligh was an early favorite of the judges, with all three mentioning a guy with curly hair who did not seem like your usual American Idol contestant. Sligh was disqualified from American Idol on March 28, 2007, and so ranks tenth in Season Six.
During his final performance, he informed Phil Stacey, “You owe me 50 bucks,” referring to their wager that he would be eliminated that night. The next day, Sligh stated that he had not aimed to win the competition and had considered leaving the program two weeks prior, but stayed in order to make the top 10 and go on tour with the other top ten finalists.
Later, he said that his desire to leave was similar to anyone doing a job and feeling like they couldn’t do it any longer. He also disputed the myth that he had no desire to win, saying, “I never set out to win because it would have driven me insane, I just concentrated on small objectives, the first of which was to place in the top ten so that I could go on tour.”
Sligh announced in November 2007 that he had signed a solo deal with Brash Music, an Atlanta-based independent label distributed by Warner Bros, ADA Distribution, and Word Distribution. Brown Bannister, Stephen Leiweke, and Will Owsley produced the resulting album, Running Back to You. Brash Music released Sligh’s CD on May 6, 2008.
“Empty Me,” the first official single, was uploaded to radio playlists on February 22, 2008, and peaked at number six on the Billboard Hot Christian Songs Charts.
He published A Modern Liturgy in April 2018. The album followed Mighty Roar / Healing Flood with equally positive reviews: JesusFreakHideout awarded it 4/5 stars, while CCM Magazine gave it 4/4 stars again. In 2018, Sligh composed and produced new artist Jenna Long and produced the majority of an EP for Curt Anderson. He collaborated with Worship Tutorials to create a series of videos in 2019.
