Dixon initially auditioned for the show in the tenth season, alongside his sister Schyler, during the Nashville auditions. Neither of them, however, made it into the Top 24. On March 3, 2011, Dixon appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

Dixon reappeared in season 11, however, he had no intention of auditioning, instead opting to accompany his sister Schyler to her audition.
