Ashley is a reporter for ABC7 (KGO-TV) in the San Francisco Bay Area. He joined ABC7 in 1995 as a weekday news anchor and investigative reporter at 5:00 p.m. He was promoted to anchor of the 6:00 and 11:00 newscasts in addition to the 5:00 newscast a year later, in 1996 replacing Richard Brown.

Ashley was given an inside glimpse inside the White House in February 2013 when there for a one-on-one interview with President Barack Obama. Ashley has also conducted interviews with George W. Bush, General Colin Powell, Rob Reiner, Tom Brokaw, Rahm Emanuel, and Ben Carson, among others.
