Who is Kalpana Chawla?
Kalpana Chawla was an Indian-American astronaut. There is no doubt that she has made records in the world of Astronomy.
This is because she was the first Indian-American Astronaut. Also, she is the first Indian woman to go to space. Her second flight to space in 2003 became her final flight since she died on that voyage.

She was born on March 17 1962 and died at the age of 40. She left her spouse, Jean -Pierre Harrison behind.
Kalpana Chawla death
As mentioned earlier, Kalpana died on her second mission to space. This happened during the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster on 1st February 2003.
In that event, the Space Shuttle disintegrated while returning to Earth’s atmosphere causing the death of all seven crew members including Kalpana.
