The legendary actor and director Richard Oh passed away at 62. Friends and followers were shocked to learn of his demise.
Richard was one of Indonesia’s most well-known figures. The authorities have not confirmed his death. According to the news, he passed away on Thursday, April 7th, 2022.
He was sent to South Tangerang’s Eka Hospital BSD. His fans have expressed their heartfelt condolences to his family.
Richard Oh, an Indonesian filmmaker, actor, and writer, died at 62.
Joko Anwar and Gina S Noer, both fellow filmmakers, confirmed the news of Oh’s death. He died at the Eka Hospital BSD in South Tangerang on Thursday night (April 7). In Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan, he was laid to rest today.
Abdurrahman bin Yong Masio was his real name. He began his career as a writer. He co-founded the literary award Kusala Sastra Khatulistiwa to recognise Indonesian writers and authored three books: The Pathfinders of Love, Heart of the Night, and The Rainmaker’s Daughter.
With his debut film, Koper, in 2006, he embarked on a career as a director and screenwriter. Terpana, Love Is A Bird, and Menunggu Bunda were among his projects following that.
Several of Oh’s well-known colleagues have expressed their condolences on social media, expressing their sadness at the director’s untimely death.
Oh was a well-known novelist in addition to being a director and actor. Oh began his career as a writer, and he published several works at the time, including The Pathfinders of Love, Heart of the Night, and The Rainmaker’s Daughter. He was also a co-founder of the Kusala Sastra Khatulistiwa literary prize, honoring Indonesian writers. He debuted in the entertainment sector with the film ‘Yowis Ben’ and appeared in ’27 Steps of May.’ In the year 2006, he became a director and screenwriter. His new movie is ‘Koper.’

Anwar paid tribute to Oh’s honesty, intelligence, and sense of humour in a poignant message. Anwar referred to Oh as “Kokoh,” or older brother. “Spending time with Kokoh Richard was like being in a great movie theater where you just want to watch and listen. He could be infuriating but he would be the first person you want to be with the next day when you found out what he told you was right. He touched many hearts. It would only take seconds for strangers to be wanting to be his friends.”
