Liverpool defeated Chelsea 11-10 on penalties in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley Stadium.

Following a thrilling match that ended in a tie, the first 21 penalties were all successfully converted. The penalty was then missed by Kepa Arrizabalaga, who came on at the end of extra time.

Three goals were disallowed for offside, two by Havertz and one by a razor-thin margin against Romelu Lukaku.

Until then, the game had been dominated by two other goalkeepers: Caiomhin Kelleher and Edouard Mendy, who had made a series of outstanding saves to keep the score at 0-0.

Despite all of the opportunities, the game was decided by penalties. Thomas Tuchel called on Kepa to be the hero, as he had been in the Super Cup victory over Villarreal earlier in the season. Instead, in an unexpected twist of fate, he became the antagonist.

This is the nineth time liverpool have won this cup.
