Meredith, who awoke with two cracked front teeth, thought for a split second about turning her mishap into a “Today” show bit.

“When I called  Jim Bell first thing in the morning I said, ‘Maybe we can stunt this!,’ ” Vieira told The Post yesterday.

“I think Jim thought about it for half a second before he said, ‘I think I’d much rather have you with normal teeth than expose you with broken teeth.’ ”

Vieira is still unsure if her damaged chompers were caused by the fall she had on the ice during her live “Today” show interview with “Blades of Glory” actor Will Ferrell on Monday. While conversing with Ferrell on the Rockefeller Center rink, she collapsed and smashed the back of her head.

Vieira tweeted about her dental calamity yesterday and discussed it on the air, leaving viewers to speculate whether she shattered her ivories while scarfing down a steak or grinding them in her sleep. She also described her last-minute trip to the dentist, who rescued the day by gluing her damaged teeth.

“All I know is that when I got up it was scary I realized how important your teeth are,” she said. “You can go from OK-looking to really ugly in a second.

“But things happen. And when it’s not you tripping on the banana peel, it’s very funny.”

Meredith Vieira Show

Following the birth of her first child, Vieira joined 60 Minutes in 1989. Don Hewitt, 60 Minutes’ executive producer, agreed to let her work part-time for two seasons so she could care for her kid.

Following that, it was agreed that she would work full-time. After two years, she fell pregnant again and wanted to continue working part-time. Hewitt turned down her request, fired her, and decided to recruit someone full-time instead.

Her departure from the program made headlines, igniting a national discussion over whether women could manage family and profession. When her children were little, she turned down offers to co-host CBS’s The Early Show and ABC’s Good Morning America in the mid-1990s.
