Onyeka Okongwu Biography

Onyeka Okongwu is an American college basketball player who plays for the USC Trojans of the Pac-12 Conference.


He was born on December 11th, 2000 in East Los Angeles, California, USA. Okongwu was conceived in East Los Angeles, California to Nigerian-conceived guardians Kate and Mike Okongwu and was brought up in Chino, California with his siblings, Nnamdi and Chukwuemeka, and sister Chinemya. He grew up playing tennis yet moved his concentration toward the ball at age eight.

Okongwu’s more seasoned sibling Nnamdi played ball for Chino Hills High School. In 2014, Nnamdi endured cerebrum damage in a skateboarding mishap and passed on in the wake of going through three days on time on earth support.

His mom changed occupations from the medical clinic where he passed on to Kaiser Permanente in Ontario, California. Okongwu has since worn the number 21 pullover to pay tribute to his sibling, who had worn a similar number while playing ball.

Okongwu went to Chino Hills High School in Chino Hills, California and began the varsity ball group as a green bean. Okongwu was partners with siblings Lonzo, LiAngelo, and LaMelo Ball, who raised the group into the national spotlight.

He helped the Huskies become the No. 1 positioned secondary school group in the nation with a 35–0 record and win the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Open Division state title. Okongwu was perceived as 2015–16 MaxPreps National Co-Freshman of the Year with his partner LaMelo Ball subsequent to averaging 7.9 focuses, 7.2 bounce back, and 3.1 squares per game.

On February 5, 2017, as a sophomore, Okongwu lost his first secondary school game, as Oak Hill Academy snapped his group’s 60-game win streak. He helped Chino Hills arrive at the CIF Southern Section Open Division elimination rounds and the CIF State Southern Regional elimination rounds.

As a senior, Okongwu drove Chino Hills to a next in line finish at the CIF Southern Section Division I competition and it’s second back to back CIF Division I state title. Subsequent to averaging 27, 11 bounce back, 4.3 squares, and four help for each game, he rehashed as California Mr. Ball, turning into the fifth player to ever do as such, and got USA Today All-USA California first group differentiation.

Okongwu completed his green bean season with offers to playschool b-ball for UCLA and USC. On May 14, 2018, he focused on USC, with his next decisions being UCLA and Arizona State. He settled on the choice since he needed to stay in his old neighborhood of Los Angeles and he enjoyed the USC instructing staff.

Onyeka Okongwu and Isaiah Mobley carry USC to victory over Florida A&M

Onyeka Okongwu had 20, 13 bounce back and eight blocked shots in his school debut, driving USC to a 77-48 triumph over Florida A&M in the groups’ season opener on Tuesday night.

Okongwu is a piece of one of the country’s top enrolling classes that incorporates Isaiah Mobley, who had 17 and seven bounce back. Okongwu, from close by Chino Hills High which delivered Lonzo Ball, tied a school record with his squares.

The two groups battled out of the door, shooting simply over 30% and joining to go 3 of 13 at the free toss line in the main half when the Trojans drove 24-23.
