Paula Jones filled a sexual harassment lawsuit against US President Bill Clinton. The Paula Jones case prompted Independent Counsel Ken Starr to expand his investigation into Clinton’s pre-presidency financial transactions with the Whitewater Land Company, resulting in Clinton’s impeachment by the House of Representatives and acquittal by the Senate on February 12, 1999. Jones was represented by two Washington, D.C.–area lawyers, Gilbert Davis and Joseph Cammarata.
Carpenter-McMillan, a conservative commentator from California, was appointed as her press spokesman. Carpenter-McMillan wasted no time bringing the issue to the press, calling Clinton “un-American”, a “liar”, and a “philanderer” on various stations saying, “I do not respect a man who cheats on his wife, and exposes his penis to a stranger.” Clinton agreed to an out-of-court settlement with Jones and her lawyers, paying them $850,000 to withdraw the case.
Clinton’s lawyer said that the president simply agreed to the deal to put an end to the case and go on with his life. The payment, according to Jones and her lawyers, was proof of Clinton’s guilt. Jones continues to claim that Clinton harassed her sexually. Clinton continues to refute the allegations. Jones backed Donald Trump for President of the United States in the 2016 presidential election in February.
She went to a Trump rally in Little Rock, Arkansas, the same week, and begged for a selfie with him. Jones joined Donald Trump for a news conference in October 2016 ahead of the second 2016 Presidential Debate to express his concerns against Hillary and Bill Clinton. Juanita Broaddrick and Kathleen Willey, who had previously accused Bill Clinton of sexual misconduct, were also present at the meeting.
