Budd Dwyer was an American politician. He had served as the 30th state treasurer of Pennsylvania from 1981 to 1987.
He had served as a Republican member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives from 1965 to 1971 and a member of the Pennsylvania State Senate representing the state’s 50th District from 1971 to 1981.
His 22-years long political journey came to an abrupt end when he decided to take his life on Live TV.

Rep Budd Dwyer’s infamous suicide in Live TV has been trending lately on online platforms including Reddit.
35 years after the tragic incident was telecasted live, Dwyer’s suicide has been the case to study from media house’s and the victim’s perspectives.
Nonetheless, the haunting suicide video can be found on Reddit with the users sharing their thoughts on the circumstances surrounding his action.
Dwyer held a press conference a day before his sentencing on January 22, 1987, to maintain his innocence after he was convicted of bribery.
On the footage available on Reddit, one can find the small clip of the politician placing a gun in his mouth and shooting himself.
Why Did Budd Dwyer Shoot Himself On Live TV?
Budd Dwyer was a state treasurer of Pennsylvania. He shot himself on Live TV, a day before his sentencing.
Dwyer was sentenced to 55 years in prison as he was convicted of bribery in 1986. He had held a press conference to maintain his innocence.
The conference was apparently supposed to end with the resignation of the politician as he was ready to enter the prison the day after.
The media stations covering Live had also expected the conference to end on a resignation note.
However, the situation went out of hand when he decided to do the unthinkable. As per several news sites, he had claimed to be innocent and blamed multiple persons for the crime.
Budd Dwyer Suicide Incident
During the press conference, he was seen handing the envelopes to his staff.
One of the envelopes contained a suicide note for wife Joanne Grappy while the other envelope had a signed organ donor card. He shared 2 children with his wife.
After he handed the envelopes, Dwyer pulled out a .357 Revolver from his personal envelope and took his own life in front of the public and media by shooting right through his mouth.
