On the night of April 18, 1996, Holland went to the casino alone as her husband, Robert Sanderson, was running late from work. She went to Tunica and spent the evening at Sam’s Town Hotel and Gambling Hall.

Shannon won around $5000 playing blackjack, and she cashed out in the early morning on April 19. Her husband did mention that she loved going to the casinos a lot. She went to her former in-laws’ house to pick up her kids but got kidnapped from the driveway.

Shannon Holland died due to murder on April 19, 1996, at the age of 25 years. She passed away in Memphis, Shelby County, Tennessee, and her full name was Shannon Marie Baldridge Holland Sanderson

After collecting her winnings from the casino, she pulled into her former in-law’s house to pick up her children before heading home for the night. Upon her arrival, Gerald lee Powers followed her to the driveway in a two-door marron Chevrolet.

Powers stole her jewelry and $5000, which she won at the casino. She was taken to an abandoned house in Mississippi, where she was shot in the head. Jurors testified that they heard a thud and screams that night. 

Holland’s body was found at the abandoned house in Eudora, Mississippi, on May 9, 1996. Her burial service got held at Memorial Park Cemetery, Memphis, Shelby County, Tennessee, USA.

Shannon Holland’s killer Gerald Powers is serving his sentence in the prison. The Shelby County jury convicted him of aggravated robbery and first-degree felony murder.

He got sentenced to a consecutive thirty-year prison sentence for the aggravated robbery charge and sentenced to death for the felony murder charge. According to Forensic Myles, Gerald is currently sitting on death row.
