Sheila Johana Garcia worked as a reporter for the Cosoleacaque-based online news portal El Veraz. The incident occurred at about 3:00 p.m. local time (8:00 p.m. GMT) in Cosoleacaque, Vera Cruz’s southernmost municipality.
The murders of Yessenia Mollinedo Falconi and Sheila Johana Garcia Olivera are being investigated by the State Prosecutor’s Office in Veracruz, according to a tweet from the office. He went on to say that the inquiry would be thorough and that they would look into their media job as a possible motive in their deaths.

Moreover, the State Commission for Journalist Protection and Attention reported that two women were assaulted outside a convenience store. Last Thursday, Luis Enrique Ramirez, a columnist for El Debate in Sinaloa, was assassinated.
According to a statement from the State Attorney’s General Office in Sinaloa, Ramirez died from blows to the head and a gunshot wound to the leg. As per witnesses, Ramirez was forced into a white vehicle. His body was discovered on a dusty road, according to the statement. The deaths of the three journalists mark a total of 11 reporters killed in Mexico since the start of 2022, Univision said.
In 2021, seven reporters were killed in Mexico, making it the most dangerous country for journalists for the third year in a row, as per the data compiled by Reporters Without Borders, a public internet nonprofit.
