A new, more modern look came in 1967, along with a new nickname: “Action Line”. It was with this revision of the C/K truck that General Motors began to add comfort and convenience items to a vehicle line that had previously been for work purposes alone.
The majority of 10 series and some 20 series Chevrolet trucks from 1967 to 1972 were equipped with a coil spring trailing arm rear suspension, which greatly improved the ride over traditional leaf springs. However, the leaf spring rear suspension was still available on those trucks and standard on 30 series trucks.
GMC-branded trucks came standard with leaf springs in the rear, with the coil spring/trailing arm design optional. Stacey David GearZ Wikipedia
He built his name in the hot rod club by driving to school every day in a 1930 5 Window Coupe. For as long as he can remember, David has been fascinated with automobiles.
Even before he was a teenager, he was able to make his go-karts lightning fast by fitting 440cc snowmobile engines. He restored his sister’s 1963 Volkswagen Beetle when he was twelve years old. His fascination in four-wheel drive and off-roading began with his father’s flat-fender Willys Jeep.
During his tenure at Boise State University, he spent time that would otherwise have been spent in a “boring” Biology class learning how to race at local tracks. He learned everything he could about racing icons like Richard Petty, Don Garlits, and Carroll Shelby while he was there.
David’s ambition to buy and operate a one-of-a-kind automobile lead him to the best approach to accomplish this goal: construct it himself. To do this, he studied under famed hot-rodders (custom vehicle builders) George Barris, John Buttera, and Darryl Starbird.
With those talents in hand, David relocated to Nashville and established his own custom automobile shop, “Rattletrap.” He kept his reputation intact by working on anything that was pushed, pulled, or dragged into his store. “Rattletrap” provided engine manufacturing, bespoke paint, fabrication, and other services.
David’s career took a shift to “TV land” in the late 1990s when he was given the role of presenter of the TV show Trucks!. Eager to capitalize on the chance, David joined Mel Fair as a co-host of the show beginning with the 1999 season. However, Fair quit the show in 2000, leaving David as the only host.
During the eight years, he presented Trucks!, the program became one of the highest-rated on Spike TV’s weekend roster, thanks in part to David’s ability to design and build his own projects, which was not the case with many other shows at the time. Throughout the years David presented “Trucks!”, it had the largest viewership of any automotive how-to television show.
David continued to host and produce the show until the conclusion of the 2005 season, when he elected to explore “other chances,” as he put it. The meaning of “other chances” was disclosed on March 31, 2007 and a little earlier for his devoted fan base—as a new show called Stacey David’s GearZ, which aired on ESPN2.
GearZ Season 2 premiered on the Speed Channel on February 23, 2008, with the first episode debuting on February 23, 2008. GearZ spent six seasons on the SPEED channel. Season eight of GearZ premiered on MavTV on March 7, 2014, with the first episode debuting on March 7, 2014. Season nine was also syndicated on Velocity, and Season 11 debuted in January 2017.
