Lewis was a four-time All-American at the University of Arkansas and a decorated amateur. While recovering from back surgery, she redshirted her freshman year. She won the Southeastern Conference Tournament as a redshirt freshman in 2005 and was named SEC Freshman Golfer of the Year.
She won the Women’s Western Amateur in 2006. Lewis qualified for the 2007 U.S. Women’s Open in North Carolina, shooting 78-73 in the tournament and finishing tied for 93rd. Lewis was not a member of the LPGA Tour or any other professional golf tour prior to 2009.
After successfully completing the sanctioned qualifying process, she was eligible to compete in the US Women’s Open. She then attempted to earn her LPGA Tour card in 2008 using the sponsor’s exemptions but was unsuccessful.

Lewis pledged her earnings prior to the tournament to Hurricane Harvey relief. This amounted to $390,000 after she received her winner’s check and a matching donation from her main sponsor, KPMG.
Lewis missed the year’s final women’s major, the Evian Championship, and later stated that she would not play in the event again until significant changes were made. “It’s not treated like a major, but we call it that,” she explained.
Lewis won her first title in nearly three years in 2020 with a playoff victory at The Renaissance Club in East Lothian, Scotland, in the Aberdeen Standard Investments Ladies Scottish Open.
