Despite receiving college basketball scholarship offers, Finau turned professional at the age of 17 and began playing on mini-tours such as the Gateway Tour, NGA Hooters Tour, and National Pro Tour. In 2009, Tony and his brother Gipper competed on the Golf Channel’s The Big Break.
He came in second place on Big Break Disney Golf. In 2013, he played on the PGA Tour Canada, where he made seven cuts in eight starts. He finished T-3 at the 2013 Web.com Tour qualifying school, earning him a spot on the 2014 Web.com Tour. In August 2014, he won his first title at the Stonebrae Classic. He earned his PGA Tour card for the 2014–15 season by finishing eighth in the regular season and 12th in the Web.com Tour Finals.
Tony earned a spot in the first three major tournaments of 2018, including his first Masters appearance, after winning the Tour Championship in 2017. Despite dislocating his ankle in the Par-3 tournament the day before the first round, he tied for 10th place at the 2018 Masters. He finished 5th at the 2018 U.S. Open after a double-bogey on the 18th hole, his best finish in a major tournament to date.
