Williams began playing basketball at Notre Dame High School. He was transferred to Sierra Canyon School in Chatsworth, Los Angeles for his senior year in July 2019. He joined the likes of BJ Boston, Bronny James and Zaire Wade.
In 2020, he was selected to play in the Jordan Brand Classic, the McDonald’s All-American Game, and Nike Hoop Summit, but all three games were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
He debuted his college basketball career at Stanford University. He scored 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds in an 82–64 win against Alabama in November 2020. He was selected by the Memphis Grizzlies in the 2021 NBA draft
